Broken Bow’s A’nyah Griffin-Athlete Spotlight

A’nyah Griffin has spent much of her high school basketball career learning how to stay ready, even when the minutes she wanted did not come. Now a senior at Broken Bow High School, she is using that experience as motivation heading into her final season.
“Basketball has taught me confidence, discipline, and how to keep pushing myself even when things get hard,” Griffin said. “I didn’t get that much playing time throughout these last three years of high school, so that’s definitely pushed me for this upcoming season.”
The phrase Griffin repeats to herself is simple: “Nobody cares, work harder.”
That approach has helped her remain focused while waiting for an opportunity to take on a larger role. Griffin is already proud of helping Broken Bow reach the first round of the Class 4A state tournament, an experience that showed her what can be accomplished through patience, discipline and continued effort.
Griffin has also learned from the example set by teammate Tyson Woolsey. She admires Woolsey’s positive attitude, her ability to prepare and her faith.
“My teammate Tyson Woolsey has made the greatest impression on me because of her positive attitude, her ability to always have a plan and especially her strong relationship with Jesus,” Griffin said.
Faith is an important part of Griffin’s life as well. She attends Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and tries to follow advice given to her by her nana.
“One of the biggest pieces of advice I’ve received from my Nana is to always keep God first because when you trust Him, you can have peace knowing He will always make a way,” Griffin said.
Away from basketball, Griffin stays involved through Student Council, National Honor Society and Spanish Club. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Ramirez, whom Griffin describes as understanding and someone she feels comfortable approaching about anything.
Griffin also enjoys the quieter moments that come with living in the country. Tubing, swimming, riding side-by-sides and spending time with friends give her a chance to relax outside school and basketball.
As she prepares to finish her time at Broken Bow, Griffin is grateful for those who have remained beside her.
“I would like to thank God for all the opportunities and blessings that He allows me to receive,” Griffin said. “I also thank my family for supporting and encouraging me and always being by my side throughout everything.”
