Kira Williamson is a shining example of academic excellence in the hallways of Broken Bow High School. Her time on the academic team has shaped her attitude and mind.
Early on, Kira was drawn to quiz bowl because it piqued her intellectual curiosity and made it impossible for her to resist. “I’ve been involved in quiz bowl since middle school… and I really like my teacher,” she says, explaining where her love of academic competition began.
Amidst the whirlwind of meets and competitions, it’s the simple moments that resonate most deeply with Kira. “The car rides to and from meets, they are so much fun,” she shared.
In the arena of academic competitions, Kira finds solace in the realms of English and science, her nimble mind navigating the complexities of literature and the wonders of the natural world with equal fervor.
Preparation is key in the world of academic competitions, and Kira approaches her studies with diligence and purpose. “I study pre-made sets and flash cards on different websites,” she said, highlighting the meticulousness that underpins her quest for knowledge.
Beyond the buzzers and the scoreboards, the academic team has been a crucible of personal and academic growth for Kira. “I have gotten to learn how to work together as a team and to have faith in myself.”
In the face of defeat, Kira finds strength in adversity, channeling setbacks into opportunities for growth and self-discovery. “When we’ve lost to teams we have beaten before, we work harder to beat them next time,” she asserts, her resolve strong in the face of adversity.
Balancing academic commitments with extracurricular pursuits is a juggling act, one that Kira navigates with poise and grace. “I treat it like a class… I study for that ‘class’,” she explained.
For those contemplating a journey into the realm of academic competition, Kira offers advice: “Let yourself be involved… it is much better and way more fun that way,” she said.
As she charts her course towards the future, Kira’s experiences on the academic team illuminate her path, instilling in her the values of teamwork, perseverance and intellectual curiosity. With dreams of becoming a psychologist, she sets her sights on college.
