Broken Bow’s Jaden Laramie Harder-Athlete Spotlight-Presented by McCurtain County National Bank

Broken Bow High School senior Jaden Laramie Harder has spent her final cheer season trying to give younger teammates the same kind of support she received when she was new to the squad.

As a leader, Harder understands her role goes beyond learning routines or performing on Friday nights. She wants to be someone teammates can count on, especially when practices become demanding or competition brings added pressure.

“I feel my role on the cheer squad varies in many ways, but being a leader is the main one. I try my best to help everyone and keep the spirits high.”

Harder learned what that kind of leadership could look like during her freshman year. Former senior captain Leah Billingsley made an impression by making sure Harder felt welcomed.

“A forever teammate that left an impression on me is Leah Billingsley. She was a senior captain my freshman year, and she was so caring and never let me feel out of place. She showed me how a captain and senior should really act, and I will forever be grateful for her.”

Now a senior herself, Harder has the opportunity to provide that same encouragement to younger teammates. She also pointed to Taylee Burris as someone who has made a positive impression on her this season.

The relationships are part of what makes the work worthwhile. Broken Bow’s cheerleaders begin preparing well before the first day of school, practicing twice a week throughout the summer, attending camp and working on competition choreography.

Harder embraces both the preparation and the excitement that comes when it is finally time to perform.

“I enjoy making many friends and making the best memories, but I also enjoy competing. It gives you such an adrenaline rush, and it’s so great.”

Her parents have provided another example of perseverance throughout her life.

“My parents are who inspire me most. They have hardships, but they always overcome and make sure I have everything I need.”

Away from cheer, Harder also plays softball and participates in student council. Math is her favorite subject, while Spanish teacher Ms. Ramirez has made a lasting impact during her time at Broken Bow.

Harder also appreciates the community surrounding her, particularly the local businesses she believes represent the work ethic found throughout Broken Bow.

“My favorite thing in my hometown is all the small businesses around town. They show the epitome of hard work and perseverance.”

As Harder moves through her senior year, athletics has given her more than memories of practices, games and competitions.

“Athletics has taught me how to be a team player and communication skills.”

Those lessons are reflected in the senior Harder has worked to become — someone who keeps spirits high, makes teammates feel included and understands how much encouragement from an older teammate can matter.
