Coach: Ryan Woolsey
2021-22 Record: 19-8
The Broken Bow Savages and head coach Ryan Woolsey will be replacing three starters from last year’s team but return two veteran playmakers that should lead the team as they look to build a rhythm early in the year. The centerpiece of Broken Bow’s offense will be VYPE Top 100 Nominee Kieler Young (6-2, Sr.) who has already scored over 1,200 points in his first three seasons with the Savages. Coach Woolsey expects Young to continue his streak of scoring at will and keeping defenders on their heels. Woolsey said he would not be surprised if Young ended the year by leading the state in scoring.
Kyran Whitfield (6-2, Jr.) returns to the starting lineup and is expected to make a leap in production after his sophomore season was hampered by injuries. Whitfield is a standout on the gridiron and brings his same drive and determination to the hardwood, with a healthy season ahead he could turn some heads in the southeast area.
Tyrin Tinajero (5-8, So.) will join Young and Whitfield in the backcourt and is a gifted offensive talent with the ability to score from all three levels. Joining the lineup is Leland Billy (6-3, Sr.) who had to sit out last year, but coaches expect him to make immediate contributions down in the post. Sam Hurst (6-0, Jr.) has made an impression on coaches and has improved each offseason by putting on weight and spends as much time as possible in the gym looking for ways to improve his game. Hurst brings a lot of heart and passion that the Savages will look to utilize throughout the year.
Also look for Christian Brumley (6-2, Sr.), Carl Cooks (5-8, Sr.), and Xavier Haywood (5-10, Jr.) to play significant minutes and bring their veteran presence to the team. Patrick Smith will serve as the assistant coach.
