Broken Bow’s Mariah Sargent – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Cheryl Fisher Allstate Insurance

For Mariah Sargent, representing Broken Bow High School as a cheerleader means so much more than just cheering on the sidelines. “As a cheerleader, a lot of fellow students look up to us, and it is important for us to be a good role model,” she says. As a senior Co-Captain of the Varsity Cheer team, Mariah has embraced the responsibility of setting an example for her team and peers while keeping the “school spirit high.” Each game, she channels that energy into inspiring fans and fellow athletes alike, making each moment on the sidelines a meaningful one.

Mariah’s journey as a cheerleader has been shaped by a strong support system. “My parents, Chad and Masheli Sargent…are who I look to when I need motivation and guidance,” she shares. She’s also been impacted by Mrs. Wood, a teacher who encouraged her “to go out of my comfort zone to try new things and meet new people through student council.” These influences have driven her not only in cheerleading but also in her academic and extracurricular pursuits.

One of the most memorable moments of Mariah’s cheer career came when the Broken Bow competitive cheer team reached the finals at state in 2022. “The highlight moment of my career is when we first heard that we placed in the finals at state…we are working hard to be able to do it again,” she recalls with pride. The journey to success in cheer, she explains, requires dedication: “To be successful in Cheer…you have to put the work in and want to be there; it is a time-consuming sport and you have to be a team player.”

In addition to cheer, Mariah is actively involved in campus life, serving as a Senior Class Vice President, the Director of Public Relations for Student Council, and a Pep Club member. Looking forward, she plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and pursue a career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Mariah’s long-term motivation remains clear: “to be successful and have a family of my own,” all while honoring her role as a Broken Bow Savage.
