Broken Bow’s Taylee Burris-Athlete Spotlight-Presented by Pine Cellular

The youngest girls on the sideline are never far from Taylee Burris’s mind. As the Broken Bow senior leads the cheer squad, she knows her response to adversity and interactions with teammates can show them what leadership looks like.

That responsibility makes this season meaningful. Burris was selected as a cheer captain and earned All-American honors, achievements that reflect her skill and willingness to accept difficult work.

“In cheer, there are several challenging skills that are often painful, but they have taught me that I’m able to do hard things and push through to success,” Burris said. “It has also taught me a lot about teamwork and being a good role model, not only for my teammates, but for those little girls on the sidelines and our community.”

Her influence extends beyond game nights. Burris serves as secretary of her school’s student council and District 4, is a Club America officer and vice president of the National Honor Society. She helps lead Fellowship of Christian Athletes lessons, assists with Fields of Faith and volunteers with Broken Bow’s special-needs program and Special Olympics. She was named the 2024 Broken Bow Student Chamber Volunteer of the Year.

Those commitments take Burris beyond familiar territory. She credits Mrs. Wood with encouraging her to leave her comfort zone and become a stronger leader. She also appreciates Mr. Hall, whose classroom blended humor and patient guidance. When an assignment became difficult, Hall helped her see that she was “never far from the answer.”

Her teammate Caroline Skelton has left a lasting impression.

“She never fails to light up every room she walks into, and she is a great person to talk to if you ever need advice about anything,” Burris said.

Away from school, Burris enjoys Beavers Bend, where she spends time with family and takes in the wildlife and scenery. Her family supports every pursuit, while cheer coach Charisse Berryhill continues to challenge her and believe in her.

One question keeps Burris moving toward the next goal: “If not you, then who?”

“If I don’t chase my dream or achieve my goals, then who will?” Burris said. “It is a reminder that I need to drive and push myself because no one is going to do it for me.”
