Broken Bow Savages 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented by Evan Smalling State Farm

BROKEN BOW SAVAGES

Coach: ROD DAVIS

7-4

OFFENSE

Wide receivers Jakyran Whitfield (6-1, 175, Sr.) and Tyrin Tinajero (5-9, 150, Jr.), quarterback Anthony Clay (6-0, 170, So.), running back Adin Coley (6-0, 195, Sr.), and sophomore receiver Sky Baker will each be key ingredients for Broken Bow’s spread offense in 2023 under head coach Rod Davis. “Those are some names of players that will be the main focus of our offense,” Davis said. “We need to replace Christian Brumley at QB with Anthony Clay, who will be a sophomore. Jakyran Whitfield will be the guy to score.” Davis expects Whitfield to play a bigger role. “Started since he was a freshman. Dynamic playmaker on offense and defense. Gonna have to play a bigger role for us this year on offense,” he said. Clay will be counted on heavily for an offense that likes to put the ball in the air. “Big expectations and big shoes to fill,” Davis said of his sophomore signal caller. Coley, a VYPE Top 100 nominee, along with Whitfield, will also play a role on defense. “He will be an explosive running back and linebacker,” Davis said. Tramden Mulkey (5-10, 255, Sr.) and Adin Zamudio (5-10, 200, Sr.) will anchor the offensive line.

DEFENSE

The Savages return five starters on defense, which will line up in a base 3-4 with multiple fronts and bring a lot of pressure. Key returnees include linebackers Quinlan Bailey (6-1, 180, Jr.) and Max Rupp (6-0, 170, Sr.), defensive lineman Kyler Cupit (6-4, 210, Jr.) and defensive back Korey Nnokam (6-5, 175, Jr.). Whitfield will join Nnokam in the secondary from the safety position, Coley will provide leadership at linebacker, and both Mulkey and Zamudio will see action on the defensive line in addition to their duties on the offensive line. Assistant coaches under Davis are Duce Lee, Luke Ring, Braden Jackson, Jim Bradley and Mitchell Magar.
