VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach or music teacher throughout your career and how did they impact you as a person?
Cale Bible:My absolute favorite teacher throughout the entirety of the band is Mr. Thomas. From beginning band in sixth grade, Mr. Thomas has been there every step of the way to making me the musician I am today. He has taught me the importance of doing what is best for the group instead of what is best for me. He also taught me how to be disciplined with my practice time and to try to finish everything I start.
VYPE: Did you have any other band members that you admire or that supported you?
CB: Some to mention are Mackenzie Dansby, Jayden Thomas, Riley McBrayer, Cedar Fields, Keaton Taylor and Zane Harrington. Over the years, they have taught me what it truly means to be a friend and to support others to be their best.
VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?
CB: Mrs. and Ms. Thomas were excellent choir teachers and helped me through some stressful situations through high school. Finally, I would like to thank Mrs. Wood because she has helped push me to be involved in leadership positions and for helping me build a network for my future endeavors.
VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming marching season?
CB: The funny thing about band is that there is not really an off-season. In July, we have auditions for drum line and practice to prepare for All-District band auditions. We also have a four-day-long percussion camp in July for the upcoming marching season. Then, we have two weeks of band camp to prepare for the upcoming marching show.
VYPE: What has music/band taught you that you use in your daily life?
CB: Music has taught me to be patient. Getting angry at a piece of music you cannot play right away does not solve anything. Music has also taught me how to be a part of something bigger than just myself.
VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in band?
CB: My favorite memory so far in band was having the opportunity to attend the DCI International Championship in San Antonio. It was truly an amazing experience to hear all the top-notch bands perform their absolute best.
VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this year?
CB: I am hoping that as a band we perform the best that we can. Although trophies are a nice accomplishment, I am simply hoping that we perform the best that we can at marching competitions and football games.
VYPE: What are you most excited for as you begin your last marching season?
CB: am excited that I get to experience my last marching season with my best friends. I hope that I can make the most of every moment of my senior year because I only have one high school experience.
VYPE: What are your plans after high school?
CB:I plan to attend the University of Oklahoma and major in computer science. After I get my bachelor’s degree, I plan to get a master’s in bioinformatics to help research genomes and further the medical field.
