Motivated by a goal to always be better and do better, freshman Rylan Hanks of Broken Bow High School is making waves on the basketball court and golf course.
For Rylan, the support and guidance of his parents fuel his determination to succeed. “My parents and the want to be better than I am,” he explained, highlighting their instrumental role in his journey.
Among his influences, Rylan singles out his father as a significant source of inspiration. “My dad is probably my biggest influence,” he asserts, crediting him with setting a stellar example and consistently pushing him to strive for greatness in all endeavors.
On the side of academics, Mr. Corliss Lewis has left a lasting impact on Rylan, encouraging him to get involved in various enriching activities. “Mr. Lewis has made a great influence on me because he has got me involved in so many good things,” he said, recognizing the teacher’s role in shaping his high school experience.
To succeed in both golf and basketball, Rylan emphasizes the importance of constant practice, recognizing the value of hard work and dedication in honing his skills.
When it comes to rivals, Rylan identifies Idabel as a significant opponent, rooted in a longstanding tradition of competition between the two schools. “They have been our schools rival for over 100 years.”
In the realm of golf, Rylan finds a formidable competitor and companion in Kaden Hough. “Kaden is a really good golfer and is fun to compete and play with,” he noted, highlighting their shared passion for the sport.
Outside of sports, Rylan is actively involved in FFA, student council and basketball, demonstrating his commitment to both athletic pursuits and community engagement.
Looking ahead, Rylan sets his sights on higher education, aspiring to attend college after high school, paving the way for a bright future beyond the green and the court.
As he represents Broken Bow High School, Rylan embodies a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence, striving to uphold the school’s values both on and off the field.
