Playing sports at Broken Bow High School has left an irreversible impression on junior Victor Silva.
Asked, “What does it mean to be a Broken Bow Savage?” Silva said, “it means a lot. I take pride in being a Broken Bow Savage.”
“My community is important to me because they support me and they bring positive energy,” Silva said.
Silva plays football and wrestles.
“Currently, my favorite sport would have to be wrestling, because it has taught me a lot on and off the mat,” Silva said. “I was introduced to the sport by You coach Lassel, who is currently my wrestling coach, in the seventh grade when the program first started. . . It’s been really good. He’s taught me a lot on and off the mat. He’s been a great coach.
Silva has also twice placed at regionals.
“My goals for the sport of wrestling is to qualify for state and place my senior year, which is next year,” Silva said.
Silva also powerlifts. He won state his freshman year for the freshman division and placed third last year. He started playing football the same year he started wrestling competitively. He had wanted to play since he was young.
“I always loved football, but I didn’ join until the seventh grade and ever since then, I’ve just fell in love with the sport, and I love the bonds and friends and life skill it has brought into my life,” Silva said. “This sport has taught me a lot throughout the years.”
Sports, Silva said, are important for what you learn playing them.
“They teach valuable skills and lessons that will later transfer onto when you graduate and go out into the real world. Sports build bonds and memories that will last forever,” Silva said.
Silva wants to continue using sports to expand and improve himself.
“My goals for the sport is to become a better version of myself on and off the field and to just get better and prepare myself for my senior year, which is next year and to help and support the rest of my teammates through the season,” Silva said.
